Magical Science
My magical science shows are packed full of fun exciting experiments that appear magical until we discover the science behind them, and tricks where science is relied upon to make the illusion.
First I present the experiments in a magical and showy way, and then with help from members of the audience we repeat these experiments whilst unlocking the secrets and exploring the science.
Many of the experiments require common everyday items and so the children, with adult supervision, will be able to repeat many of these experiments in class or at home.
Areas of science covered include senses, forces, materials and light amongst others.
I present 45/60min shows for KS1, Years 3/4, Years 5/6 and a 30min show for Foundation.
During the magical science workshops children have great fun conducting some of these experiments in a class size environment. This format allows the children to experience the science and concentrate more deeply on specific areas.
Case studies
Townlands Primary School, Leicestershire had shows for KS1, KS2 and Foundation.
Whitehall Junior School, Uxbridge chose to have a 60 min magical science show for their Yr 5 pupils followed by 3×60 min magical science workshops, one for each class.
Wallisdean Junior School, Fareham opted for a mix of magic workshops and science workshops for their Yr 5 Magic and Mystery topic. During the day the two classes each had a science workshop and a general magic workshop. I was able to link my workshops to the work they had done in class. Particularly activities regarding illusion with their learning on how our eyes work.
